Course Books
No one book covers the material on this course but there are a few that I would recommend.
PHP and SQL
I've previously recommended PHP and MySQL by Larry Ullman at around a tenner from Amazon. This year we wont be doing as much with PHP but it will be used on other modules so this book would be useful.
There is a Wikibook on PHP which looks good.
XML
Two books I have previously recommended are
- Beginning XML - a WROX publication - now in its 4th Edition
- XML in a Nutshell - Eliottte Rusty Harold
The later is a good reference book
In searching in Amazon I came across
- XML - Learning by Example - by Robert Mellar, reasonably priced at 10.49
- There's another book for a tenner XML in Easy Stages by Mike McGrath.
- At the same price there is a SAMS book
I haven't seen any of these but the first sounds promising. Judging from the review, avoid the XML for Dummies book like the plague.
There is also a WikiBook which looks useful. An XQuery Wikibook which I am a contributer to will be used in the second semester
